Wandering an apple orchard and biting into just-picked orbs of juicy sweetness makes for a memorable autumn adventure. But if you don’t have time for that, pouring a glass of just-pressed apple cider summons fall flavors, too, and that seasonal favorite is stacked on store shelves at this time of year.Sweet cider — not to be confused with alcoholic hard cider or apple juice made from concentrate — is not only a tangy, fruity treat in a glass, it’s the key ingredient in hot spiced cider, doughnuts, syrups, jelly and other treats. Before you grab that jug of apple cider, though, it pays to understand what cider is — or should be. Apple cider (and some apple juice) is made from pressed, smashed, pureed or otherwise pulverized apples, nothing more. Cider is typically light brown in color, always cloudy due to apple pectin, and comes in both refrigerated and shelf-stable versions. By contrast, apple juice is typically fully filtered, often made from apple concentrate and...Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleads guilty in Georgia case

In a move with potentially serious implications for the recall campaign targeting District Attorney Pamela Price, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors will consider on Tuesday a measure that could overhaul how the county conducts such elections.According to a presentation prepared for the board by the lawyer, the county charter’s current rules include unconstitutional provisions, missing procedures, and unfeasible election laws.“In order to provide the public and the Registrar of Voters with clear and achievable standards for conducting a recall, it is recommended that your Board adopt an ordinance to amend the Charter,” reads the report signed by County Counsel Donna Ziegler.Related ArticlesElection | Group seeking to recall Alameda DA Pamela Price can now collect signatures According to Ziegler’s report, the move is necessary to align the county’s laws with the state’s and eliminate “decades old procedures” that are “a detriment to ensuring lawful, c...Woman claims her water at Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay hotel ‘defiled’ by ‘criminal deviant’ worker

SAN JOSE – The president of the San Jose Sharks believes the NHL’s ban on players displaying “cause messaging” on their equipment, including the use of Pride-themed tape on their sticks, will undergo some adjustments, possibly this season. An NHL memo earlier this month informing clubs what players could no longer do on theme nights, including using the rainbow-colored stick tape – often used during LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations in pregame warmups — was met with both confusion and derision, with some feeling the league was backtracking on its long-running “Hockey is for Everyone” campaign.“Make no mistake,” former NHL executive Brian Burke wrote on social media earlier this month, “this is a surprising and serious setback.”Previously, NHL players had the option of putting specialized tape, including lavender tape on Hockey Fights Cancer nights, or camouflage tape on Military Appreciation Nights, on their sticks before the league established its current guidelines.Perhaps, though, t...Latest news
