A youth program designed to provide alternative education to students with non-violent behavioral infractions is getting an overhaul.Promise, the arrest diversion program, had a lot of support when it was first brought to Broward County Public Schools, but then fell out of favor as it gained controversies. On Tuesday, the board decided unanimously to postpone the decision. “All in favor say ‘Aye’,” said BCPS Chair Lori Alhadeff. “Aye,” everyone responded. “All who oppose say ‘No’… Item passes unanimously.”Critics said that the 10-year-old program is ineffective and they can’t shake its link to its most notorious enrollee — the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school killer, Nikolas Cruz. “We were supposed to have a school-to-prison pipeline committee,” said Harold Pryor, the Broward County State Attorney. “We had one meeting, then there was a follow-up request, then we had a meeting with all the s...Worker seriously hurt in accident involving forklift at Logan Airport

In what would represent a complete reversal of current U.S. foreign policy, a surging contender for the 2024 Republican nomination Vivek Ramaswamy says he would abandon the U.S. policy of “strategic ambiguity” when it comes to Taiwan. For more than four decades American diplomats and presidents have walked a balancing act when it comes to the Pacific island nation, where a democratically elected government oversees the mass of the world’s semiconductor production, despite assertions by the authoritarian Chinese government that the territory belongs under the control of Beijing.Ramaswamy, in a letter responding to a Wall Street Journal op-ed on his foreign policy positions, said Tuesday the longstanding policy would end in his White House.“No other presidential candidate is willing to commit to militarily defending Taiwan, and in December 2016, President Trump was roundly derided for violating diplomatic protocol for the high offense of answering a congratulatory phone cal...Newton man killed in collision with UPS truck identified

Private investigators in Massachusetts petitioned state lawmakers Tuesday to give them online access to a swath of records held by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, a move they said is necessary to save time and taxpayer dollars.Detectives can already get their hands on many RMV records but they are required to go in person to pick them up, a scenario that can often take hours and prove inconvenient for those who work far away from a service center, said Martin Kraft, vice president of the Licensed Private Detectives Association of Massachusetts.Private investigators working a case for the Committee for Public Counsel Services, a state-funded agency that provides legal counsel for the indigent, can charge up to $75 an hour, including for time spent retrieving records from the Registry of Motor Vehicles, according to the association.Kraft and the association are backing legislation from Sen.
