AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several Democratic members of the Texas House of Representatives will unveil what they're calling a "transformative school finance plan." They're set to hold a news conference Thursday morning to discuss the details of the Fully Fund Our Future Act, according to a news release. This is happening during the third special legislative session focused primarily on Gov. Greg Abbott's call to create an education savings account system in the state, which would allow families to use public dollars to pay for private schools. Gov. Abbott on ‘one yard line’ in fight for education savings accounts The proposal is opposed by Texas Democratic lawmakers as well as some rural Republican leaders in the House. KYLE, Texas (KXAN) -- A Houston man was arrested in Kyle last week after an attempted kidnapping, according to a press release from the Kyle Police Department. Police said they received a call about a suspicious person on Waterloo Drive around 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 and were informed that a man was trying to get a 15-year-old girl into his vehicle. The girl ran to a nearby house where the homeowner was able to get her safely inside, lock the house and call 911, the release said. The man was seen following the girl and trying to enter the residence before leaving the area. When police arrived, the homeowner and victim gave them a description of the suspect and his vehicle. The homeowner also had Ring doorbell footage of the incident. KPD officers used that information to locate the vehicle and suspect in the area. ST. LOUIS - Three men face federal charges in connection with a St. Louis murder-for-hire plot linked to a woman's death earlier this year. Andrew C. Hubbard, 37, of Maryland Heights; Justin R. Lee, 37, of Northwoods; and Eric Washington, 45, of Jennings, all face charges in the death of Andreaia Worthem. Teen and young woman shot while in car downtown, police investigating Police found Worthem, 53, fatally shot during the early morning hours of July 7, 2023. She was found in an alley in the 4400 block of Kennerly Avenue. According to a federal indictment, the three men reportedly agreed to kill Worthem in exchange for money and other items of value. Hubbard, Lee and Washington were all indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and one count of murder-for-hire in the investigation. Deonte Robinson, 25, was found guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Sean Waldon. JENNINGS, Mo. - The St. Louis County Police Department has launched an investigation into a suspicious death from Wednesday evening in Jennings. Police say the victim was found deceased with an apparent gunshot injury. Investigators have not disclosed the victim's age or identity. (CNN) — The House remains paralyzed with no end in sight to the Republican leadership crisis as Rep. Jim Jordan continues his bid for speaker despite facing stiff resistance.
