Brian Cosgriff knows a great basketball player when he sees one, and the Minnetonka High School girls basketball coach thinks the Gophers got one on Tuesday when Tori McKinney committed to play next season for coach Dawn Plitzuweit.“That’s one thing about getting old,” Cosgriff said, “You’ve experienced a lot. (McKinney) will be one of the best ever to wear the maroon and gold.”That’s high praise from anyone but especially from Cosgriff, who coached a lot of Power 5 players while winning seven state titles in 21 seasons before retiring from Hopkins in 2020, among them Paige Bueckers (UConn), Maya Nnaji (Arizona) and Amaya Battle (Gophers). And the ones he didn’t coach, he tried to contain, such as the Gophers’ Mara Braun.McKinney, a 6-foot1 wing, announced her commitment Tuesday morning via social media with the simple message, “Staying home.” She spent all of her junior season on the bench with a broken tibia; otherwise, Cosgriff said, she would be nationally ranked alongside ...Petition filed to block Trump from Minnesota’s 2024 ballot under ‘insurrection clause’

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A group of Minnesota voters filed a legal challenge Tuesday to try to block former President Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s presidential ballot next year. The petition, filed with the Minnesota Supreme Court, argues that Trump is disqualified from public office under the rarely used “insurrection clause” of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The petitioners, including Democratic former Minnesota Secretary of State Joan Growe, argue that anyone who has sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution, and then engages in insurrection, is barred from ever holding public office again. It’s the latest in what’s expected to be a series of similar challenges being filed by liberal groups across the country over Trump’s to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden and his alleged support for the assault of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. One was filed in Colorado last Thursday. The lawsuits appear destined to end up before the U.S. Supreme Court....Local first responder organizations awarded $345K+ in funding

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues will be mostly healthy going into the start of training camp next week, but one key piece has suffered a setback. The Blues announced Tuesday that defenseman Tory Krug suffered a right-foot injury while preparing for the upcoming season. As a result, he will be out for the start of training camp. Krug will be re-evaluated on Oct. 1, but his current timetable to recovery has not yet been determined. As new season nears, the St. Louis Blues still haven’t named a captain This season marks the fourth year of Krug's seven-year contract with the Blues. He's had 107 points (18 goals and 89 assists) over 178 regular-season games with St. Louis. The 32-year-old defenseman was signed in the 2020 offseason as the Blues missed out on bringing back captain Alex Pietrangelo. Krug has dealt with various injuries in all three seasons and reportedly used a no-trade clause to block a trade that would've moved him out of St. Louis this summer.
