SAN DIEGO-- The City of San Diego put out a warning for homeowners if they receive a “water update” notice from a private company to be aware. “At first, like many people, I thought it was official communication from the water company or the city water department, but then I got a little suspicious over it,” said Robert Clark Young, a South Bay resident who received the unauthorized notice. Young is among several neighbors in the South Bay who received the notice on their door this week. The notice reads “WATER UPDATE” and to “PLEASE CALL ASAP” written in English and Spanish. The flyer has a phone number: 877-977-8626, and a company name “Quality Water Testing USA, Inc.” “So, I googled the phone number on there and it turned out they did the same thing up in Washington State, found a news story from five years ago up there. They were putting door hangers,” Young said. According to the BBB website, the company received an A+ rating, despite two customer complaints th...Prison officer union against needle exchange after B.C. inmate overdose death

AGASSIZ, B.C. — The union representing prison officers says its members are concerned about the safety of staff and inmates over a needle exchange program proposed by the Correctional Service. It says this comes after an inmate at the medium-security Mountain Institution in Agassiz, B.C., died Tuesday from what is believed to be a fentanyl overdose. The union says the Correctional Service of Canada announced last month that a prison needle exchange program would be implemented at the medium-security prison.John Randle, the regional president for the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers, says providing access to needles for inmates to inject their illegal drugs alone in their cells does nothing to curb or treat addictions, and the union is instead advocating for overdose prevention sites in prisons. He says a needle exchange also poses a risk for officers, noting that two officers were exposed to fentanyl while responding to Tuesday’s overdose and one of them had to be given a...Paul Lisnek on the new House speaker, Trump’s federal gag order and more

LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) — The water levels of Lake Travis rose a couple feet after several days of rain this week.According to the Texas Water Development Board, the second-largest of the Highland Lakes rose roughly 2 feet compared to last Friday. This elevation comes after a long, dry summer where drought conditions led to the closure of many of the area's public boat ramps. Lake Travis boat ramp to close Tuesday due to low water levels Jacob Williams, owner of ATX Boat Rentals, said as water levels dipped lower and lower this summer, he had to send his dock further out into the lake to keep it afloat. For the first time in a long time, Williams said he can bring the dock back to the shore thanks to the elevated water levels."I think it's the first time in two and a half years I've actually had to bring the dock in because the lake has started to rise a little bit," Williams said.Tabata Indalecio has lived on Lake Travis for two years. Wisconsin came into Friday night’s game at St. Thomas Ice Arena as the No. 1 team in women’s college hockey and left with a 5-3 victory. But the Tommies might have gained something valuable, too — a sense that their program is starting to turn the corner. After being swept by No. 2 Ohio State and the Gophers the past two weeks, including one-sided losses in the two series openers, Friday night’s competitive showing against the Badgers was an impressive performance by the home team.“This is a different space for us,” St. Thomas coach Joel Johnson said. “I will be curious to see how our team shows up tomorrow night. I just got done sharing with them, we kind of did what we wanted to do, we just got outplayed.”While the Tommies are not celebrating after falling to 0-5 in the WCHA, there is something to be said for coming out of a game against the nation’s best and feeling like you belong.“I would say we played our best,” said St. Thomas defenseman Nicole Vallario, who scored the T...Wild play better, earn point in Washington
