Bear captured in Sierra Madre A bear was captured in a Sierra Madre neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. Due to a recent increase in bear activity in the area, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife had been frequently calling the Sierra Madre Police Department to check on them and authorities happened to get a report of a bear sighting in a front yard, CDFW spokesman Tim Daly said. The bear was spotted and darted and was able to run into a different yard before falling asleep.Officials were then able to put the young adult female bear in a cage in the back of a trailer. Crews are taking the bear to the “nearest suitable habitat” in the Angeles National Forest, Daly said. The bear is not currently tagged, but she will get an ear tag and collar. She is one of at least three bears that are believed to be active in the area. One of the residents who saw the bear Tuesday thinks she had tried to get into a house, but it is unclear she if is the one garnering recent media attention, Daly said.CDFW was assisted at Tues...

Dumb Money is a Smart Take on the Gamestop Scandal

Dumb Money is a Smart Take on the Gamestop Scandal GameStop lives, and is probably open late at a location near you. The fate of the often troubled videogame retailer is at the core of Dumb Money, a fast-paced and funny movie about the 2021 amateur stock trading craze on which the retail chain’s fortunes rose, fell, and then rose again. And if the filmmakers neglect to cap their tale with news of the store’s unexpected survival (the chain just posted a quarterly profit), well, the GameStop saga was never really about the store, was it?Keith Gill (Paul Dano), a 32-year-old Massachusetts financial broker must have been a loyal customer because in the fall of 2019, he began singing the praises of GameStop in online videos recorded in his basement. To the astonishment of the few people paying attention to his initial posts, Gill reported buying 53 grand in stock, an idea that struck most as laughable. Everyone knew the hedge fund guys (“smart money”) were going to cash out big when GameStop crashed and burned. That’s how the world works...

GOP struggles to find consensus on averting shutdown By Melanie Zanona, Lauren Fox, Annie Grayer and Haley Talbot | CNNHouse Republicans are still struggling to reach consensus on a plan to fund the government, with lawmakers going back-and-forth over the issue and leadership forced to delay a planned procedural vote as they work to find agreement within their ranks.GOP leaders are planning to plow ahead with a vote on their proposal this week, even as some conservative hardliners are still digging in and threatening to oppose a procedural vote, which would prevent the bill from coming to the floor. GOP lawmakers stood up during a closed-door conference meeting Tuesday morning to make their case for – or against – the plan, which would temporarily fund the government and beef up border security but is dead-on-arrival in the Democratic-controlled Senate.House GOP leaders canceled a procedural rule vote on the proposal originally slated for Tuesday morning amid that opposition from hardliners. It’s unclear when or if that vote will get ...

The San Jose Sharks have issues. Here are 5 they hope to resolve during training camp The San Jose Sharks’ task of trying to replace three-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson is a little bit like a bleary-eyed parent trying to assemble their child’s intricate new toy on a hectic Christmas morning.Where does one even begin?Karlsson, traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins last month, did just about everything for the Sharks last season as he became the first defenseman in 31 years to score 100 points in a season. As the Sharks stumbled to a 22-44-16 record, Karlsson had a season for the ages as he led the team in assists, overall ice time, power-play points, and power-play ice time. He fueled breakouts, held his own on defense, played all 82 games, and provided underappreciated leadership.Finding ways to make up for Karlsson’s absence will be job No. 1 for the Sharks this month as they get ready to begin their first training camp in five years without No. 65.“You’re losing a Norris Trophy-winning defenseman and a guy that’s got elite offensive ability,” Shark...

(KRON) -- Oakland's ex-police chief, LeRonne Armstrong, was exonerated by a hearing officer who reviewed circumstances surrounding his termination and sided with the former top cop. The former top cop said he never violated any Oakland Police Department policies, deserves his job back, and proclaimed Rivera's report as "vindication."Legal analyst Paula Canny told KRON4 that Rivera's report shows Oakland city officials and Armstrong need to work things out. "It's just a mess of a situation. What she is signaling to the parties is, you ought to settle this. Sit down, and talk it out, and figure out, what is the solution?"LeRonne Ar...
