The first snow has blanketed the Front Range and dozens of Colorado high school football teams have put away the tackling dummies. It’s state playoff time — for everyone but Class 3A — and the brackets are set. Here’s what to watch for with the big schools in Class 5A and 4A:Class 5AThe FavoriteCherry Creek: Could it really be anyone other than the four-time defending 5A champs? As has been the case throughout its unprecedented run under coach Dave Logan, Creek is loaded in the trenches with a shutdown defense (10.4 points allowed/game), efficient quarterback play (21 TDs/4 INTs) and an endless stream of skill position talent. The top-seeded Bruins (10-0) are not only unbeaten, they’ve faced a second-half deficit just twice all fall. Until someone actually ends the Bruins’ 15-game state playoff win streak, they are the team to beat. The ChallengersColumbine: The only other unbeaten left in 5A, the second-seeded Rebels (10-0) may be the biggest threat to Creek’...Long Beach sex assault survivor angered by DA's decision

A woman who was sexually assaulted by a homeless man in Long Beach is distraught at county prosecutors' decision to not file felony charges against the suspect.Following the man's arrest, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office only filed a misdemeanor charge, which the victim said was a stark disparity from the severe nature of the crime. The attack happened on Oct. 20 at 2:15 p.m. in front of Village Market on the 140 block of Linden Avenue.Surveillance video shows the victim, Rebekah Pederson, walking on a sidewalk near Linden and Broadway when the suspect, Miguel Avila, 30, suddenly stands up, exposes himself and grabs her from behind. She falls onto the ground as Avila appears to pull up her skirt and thrust himself against her. An older man sitting nearby is seen getting up and pepper spraying the suspect. Avila then runs away from the scene.“Nobody in their right mind looked at that video and thought anything less than attempted rape,” Pedersen said.Miguel Avila, 30, ...Couple devastated after home destroyed by Highland Fire in Riverside County

As the Highlands Fire in Riverside County continues to burn an estimated 2,500 acres with only 15% containment, some residents of the small town of Aguanga, east of Temecula, where the fire started are just now starting to cope with the loss of their homes. While the winds have died down and blue skies have returned to the area, the shroud of smoke and thick ash covering the area just two days ago has given way to ash, melted metal and a debris field that extends for miles. “It got to a point where I couldn’t see from here to across the street it was so smoky,” resident John Rivera told KTLA’s Shelby Nelson.
